General and Maternity.
1. The Nelson Hospital for Wimbledon, Merton and
District. The accommodation of this voluntary hospital to
whose funds the Council makes an annual grant was reduced
from 86 to 84 beds by the conversion of two private wards
into bath-rooms. The beds are now arranged as follows:—

The following information relating to the hospital's
activities during the year is supplied by the courtesy of the
Secretary:—
(a) General Medical and Surgical Treatment—
Total in-patients admitted during 1938 1,128

Extensions are in progress to the Orthopedic and X-Ray
Departments.
2. The County and Public Assistance Hospitals.
Under existing arrangements, patients from this district receiving
treatment in County Hospitals are admitted mostly to
the Kingston and District Hospital, Wolverton Avenue. Until
the completion of the new St. Helier Hospital, the position in
this part of the County with regard to in-patient accommodation
must remain very difficult.
