Erysipelas
Two cases were notified as in the year before. One was a man of 65
years, the other a child of 8 an inpatient in a local hospital.
Pneumonia
Thirteen cases of primary and influenzal pneumonia were recorded
of which 3 were influenzal in origin. Most of them occurred in the first
quarter of the year.
Measles
In conformity with the biennial pattern of measles incidence in the
London area, 1963 was a "measles year". Whereas in 1962 only 59 cases
occurred, 1,127 were notified in 1963. Epidemic conditions prevailed in
the first half of the year, during which time more than 1,000 occurred.
There was one death in a child of 3 years, the first death from measles for
12 years.

Whooping Cough
The record low figure of prevalence for this infection was in 1962
when 18 cases were notified. In 1963 the number recorded was 24 which
compares with annual totals of several hundreds in the days before immunisation
was practised.
