The manufacturers altered the label to comply with the Order and
no further action was taken.
Ready Mix Ice Cream.
The label indicated that a "vegetable stabiliser" was used in the
manufacture. This was an inadequate description. The manufacturers
reprinted the labels on which the specific name of the stabiliser—sodium
alginate—was declared.
Tripe.
This was a sample which contained 0.8% of sodium carbonate used
in the processing of the tripe. This was deemed to be excessive as other
samples of this commodity taken in the district contained less than 0.1 %
of soda. Legal proceedings were taken. The vendor was convicted and
fined £10 with £24 5s. 0d. costs.
Section 9—Sale of Food Unfit for Human Consumption
The following complaints of alleged foreign matter in food were
received:—
Bandage in Bread Mould on Apple Turnover

Legal proceedings were taken in respect of two complaints—Stones
in Luncheon Meat and Glass in Rice. The Vendors in both cases were
fined £50 and costs. Appropriate warnings were given where circumstances
justified such action in the other cases.
