Disposal of the Dead
During 1961, 360 interments of which 140 were from Carshalton,
took place at the cemetery of the Carshalton and Merton & Morden
Joint Burial Board, which is situated in Lower Morden.
The North East Surrey Crematorium Board representing the Councils
of Battersea, Sutton & Cheam, Carshalton and Merton & Morden
operates a crematorium in the Battersea Burial Ground which adjoins
the cemetery of the Joint Burial Board. During the year 1028 cremations
took place of which 51 were from the Carshalton district.
The Council maintains a mortuary in Mill Lane which is equipped
with refrigeration storage and full facilities for post mortem examination.
The number of bodies, on all of which autopsies were performed, admitted
during the year was as follows:—

The Council has a financial arrangement with the Beddington,
Wallington and Coulsdon and Purley Councils for the reception of bodies
from those areas.
