These figures represent the information which comes to the department
in the course of routine work and cannot be strictly accurate at any given
time. There is no obligation on any one to notify the Authority when overcrowding
takes place or when it is abated and only a complete survey
carried out simultaneously in every part of the district could ascertain the
exact position.

The new cases in the last ten years and the known overcrowdec dwellings at the respective year ends were as follows:—

during the year.
In April a representation was made to the Council in respect of
Clearance Area No. 14 involving 30 terrace type houses and one combined
house and shop in St. John's Road. The Council decided to proceed by
way of a Compulsory Purchase Order and the Ministry Inquiry was held on
the 26th November.
One individual house in Wrythe Lane was found to be unfit chiefly as
a result of damage to the structure from ground subsidence and an order
for demolition was made under Section 17 of the Housing Act, 1957.
Housing Repairs and Rents Act, 1954
One certificate of disrepair originally granted under the sections
of this Act now repealed was revoked during the year.
