Closet Accommodation
All dwellings have water closets which are connected to the public
sewers, except in 17 properties where they are drained to cesspools.
The Ministry's sanction has now been received to proceed with the
soil sewer extension in the Woodcote Grove area, which the Council first
proposed to carry out in 1956. This scheme will do away with a number of
the existing cesspools.
Public Cleansing
The arrangements for collection and disposal of refuse remain as
before. Clinker and screenings from the destructor continue to be taken
to the Cemetery Board land in lower Morden. The organisation includes
the salvage of saleable commodities, such as paper, tins, metals, bottles
and rags.
