Vaccination and Immunisation
The arrangements for the prophylactic treatment of infectious disease
which are the responsibility of the County Council as the Local Health
Authority under Section 26 of the National Health Service Act, have been
steadily expanded as new and successful inoculation techniques have been
devised. The diseases for which preventive vaccination or immunisation
is now available under the County Council's schemes, include smallpox,
diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, poliomyelitis and tuberculosis. Except
in the case of the last two mentioned diseases, the schemes are directed
locally by the Medical Officers of Health of the County Districts. Those
in respect of poliomyelitis and B.C.G. are administered by the Divisional
Medical Officers.
Details of the work done under these arrangements are given in
Section F.
