Twenty-nine complaints were received and dealt with during the year.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949
The work of pest destruction is carried out under a programme agreed
with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the primary purpose
of which is the eradication of rats and mice.
In the course of this work 10,364 visits were made by the rodent
operatives to 1,380 properties when 298 instances of rat and mouse infestations
were found. Of this number 253 were in private domestic premises,
38 in business premises and 7 in Council premises. Two maintenance
treatments of the sewers were carried out, one in May and the other in
November.
The results were as follows with comparable figures for the three
preceding years :
