Shops Act, 1950
There are 524 shop premises on the register in respect of which 3,085
inspections were made during the year.
Notices were served in respect of thirty infringements of the statutory
requirements, 22 for failure to exhibit appropriate notices, two for the
absence of means for maintaining a reasonable temperature and six for the
absence of suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences. All but six of these
had been complied with by the end of the year.
Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Regulations, 1953
Thirty-two inspections and several tests were made under the Act.
Thirty-three electric fires were tested and eight were found not to
comply with the regulations.
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926
The Council have continued to execute the provisions of the Orders
and their five Sampling Officers are appointed as authorised officers under
the Act. Much of the work is done amongst the stall-holders in the district.
Pet Animals Act, 1951
Five licences have been granted in respect of premises used as Pet
Shops, all of them dealing mainly with fish and birds.
The premises have been inspected and found satisfactory.
