INFANT MORTALITY
The deaths of 22 children who died under the age of one year were
registered, of which 11 were males and 11 females. These provide an
infant mortality rate of 28.0 per thousand live births compared with
29.0 in the year before. The comparable rate for England and Wales
was 27.6.
All were deaths of legitimate children.
Thirteen of the 22 deaths occurred in the first month of life.
Congenital malformations, prematurity and diseases peculiar to infancy
accounted for 13 and infections for 9.
The ward distribution of infant mortality and the causes of death
are shown in Tables 6 and 7.
