Erysipelas.
Nine cases of erysipelas, were notified, all residents but one who
was a patient in a nursing home for old people. The face was the
site affected in six instances. One patient died, the elderly nursing
home case.
Pneumonia.
The number of cases of pneumonia which were notified was
approximately the same as the year before. Four of the total were
influenzal and occurred during prevalence of that infection in February
and March.
Measles.
Following a year of relatively low incidence, the prevalence of
this infection was approximately twice that in 1949. Of 870 cases
notified, 842 were Carshalton children, the remainder being patients
in hospital. The disease was most prevalent in the first four months
of the year and, after a period of almost complete absence in the
summer, it assumed epidemic proportions again in the last five weeks
of the year to continue into 1951.
There was one death in a child of 7 years.
