BIRTHS.
The number of live births in 1950 fell to 808 from 825 in the
year before, providing a birth rate of 13.0 per thousand population
compared with 13.2 in 1949. Of the total, 419 were males and 389
females. The "comparable" birth rate produced by the application
of the Registrar-General's comparability factor of 0.94 to allow for
differences in the constitution of the population was 12.2 By comparison,
the rate for England and Wales was 15.8.

From these sources it is known that 837 live births and 16 stillbirths occurred in 1950. They were distributed as shown in the following table:—
