During the year the Cemetery Board have sought the approval
of the Ministry of Health for the erection of a residence and office for
the Superintendent, but the proposals have not reached a stage when
they could be approved by the Department.
The position with regard to the provision of a Crematorium has
been somewhat clarified as a result of discussions which have taken
place in the Surrey County Districts' Association concerning general
provision in the County. The approved scheme is intended to serve
as a guide for the establishment of Crematoria in the County and
provides for the grouping of the authorities concerned. Carshalton
has been grouped with Wimbledon Borough, Sutton and Cheam Borough
and the Merton and Morden Urban District Councils, together with
the Battersea Metropolitan Borough Council, and, as indicated in my
last report, the Battersea Borough Council have produced approved
plans for a Crematorium to be accommodated on the land forming
part of their Cemetery site at Lower Morden. At the end of the year
these plans were still being considered by the various Councils concerned.
Modern mortuary facilities with provision for post-mortem
examinations are provided at the Council's Mill Lane Mortuary.
Establishments for Massage and Special Treatment.
Eight establishments coming within the scope of Part IV of the
Surrey County Council Act, 1931, were visited and inspected. Six
were for the practice of Chiropody and two for massage, etc. All
were found to be satisfactory.
Employment Agencies.
The Employment Agencies are visited by the Authority acting as
Agents for the Surrey County Council.
There were three on the register, and all were found to be
satisfactory.
