Supply of Insulin.
After 5th July, the Council no longer had authority to supply
insulin to necessitous cases, this function being transferred to the
Hospital Board.
During the first half of the year four cases were provided with
insulin free of cost.
Ambulance Facilities.
In conformity with the National Health Service Act this service
was transferred to the County Council on the 5th July. As far as the
public was concerned the transfer involved little change in view of the
fact that the District Council had, for several years, provided a free
service.
As from the 5th July, all the four hospitals within the urban
district were taken over by the South-west Metropolitan Hospital
Board ; none was disclaimed by the Minister.
The Cuddington Isolation Hospital, which provided isolation
facilities for this district, was similarly transferred. This change has
had one disadvantage as far as control of infectious disease is concerned.
The facilities at Cuddington are not now limited to the districts of the
former Hospital Board and cases of infectious illness arising in this
area now find their way into any of the isolation hospitals in the region
of the Hospital Board. As a result, that close personal local contact
between the hospital medical staff and the Medical Officer of Health
has largely been lost and the Medical Officer has not the same prompt
facilities of informing himself of the exact nature of many cases admitted
to hospital as infectious illness.
Table 9 show; the patients admitted from Carshalton to Cuddington
Hospital and those transferred to other isolation hospitals up to
the 4th July.
