Scarlet Fever.
There was a very welcome fall in 1945 in the number of scarlet
fever cases. A total of 109 notifications was received, 107 of which
were in respect of residents. The incidence rates were—
All cases 2.0 per 1,000 population.
Residents 1.9 per 1,000 population.
The total incidence at 2.0 per 1,000 compares with 3.04 in 1944.
School children provided 75 per cent. of the cases, and children of
pre-school age 17 per cent. The heaviest incidence, as usual, was
in the 5—10-year age group, 50 per cent. of the total being within
these age limits.
All but 13 were admitted to isolation hospital. The higher
level of housing occupation again made satisfactory home isolation
impossible in most cases.
There was no "return" cases.
No death occurred in any case.
