Section D—Housing.
New Houses.
No new houses were constructed during the year.
Council's Housing Scheme.
The dwellings in the ownership of the Council total 624 houses
and flats.
During the year sites were acquired in Culvers Avenue and on
the Clockhouse Farm Estate for housing purposes. The site in
Culvers Avenue was laid out and ready for the erection of 103 factorymade
temporary houses by the end of the year. In November
authorisation was received to acquire the land on the Clockhouse
Farm Estate, plans having already been prepared for approximately
140 houses on this site, which will be of the permanent type. Various
other small sites owned by the Council capable of accommodating
64 houses were appropriated for housing purposes, and arrangements
were made to acquire other small sites in private ownership. Only
a very small amount of land in the district is available for housing
development.
