The supply is not regarded as having particular plumbo-solvent
action.
None of the houses depends on a stand-pipe, all having a piped
supply direct to the house.
Drainage and Sewerage.
The Culvers Avenue site of 10.8 acres, required for the erection
of 103 temporary houses, was sewered and drained during the year.
In this work 433 yards of 6in. soil sewers, 258 yards of 6in. and
200 yards of 9in. surface water sewers were laid. Two hundred
and seventy drainage obstructions, affecting 699 houses, were dealt
with chiefly concerning combined drainage systems.
Rivers and Streams.
One complaint was received which was adequately dealt with.
Closet Accommodation.
All houses have water closets, only 27 of which, in unsewered
areas, are not connected to sewers.
Public Cleansing.
The collection of food refuse for pig feeding was continued, and
continued to present not a little difficulty from the point of view of
public hygiene.
Disposal of refuse, other than that having salvage value, is, as previously,
by incineration at the Council's destructor.
