In the last Annual Report reference was made to the steps taken
to promote domiciliary treatment of scarlet fever in suitable cases, also
to the difficulties met with in securing such arrangements. In this
connection it is interesting to note that 88 per cent, of all cases were
admitted to hospital.
Diphtheria.
Following upon a period of 4 years in which there was a progressive
decrease in diphtheria prevalence, the incidence of this disease in
1939 was still further reduced, and was less than half that in the year
before.
