The Hospital Report for 1939 shows that the following cases were admitted:—

Of the 1,058 in-patients, 93 were maternity cases, 22 of which were
from Carshalton.
The Council has an arrangement with the hospital for the treatment
of maternity cases and children referred from the public clinics.
Tuberculosis.
The County Council administers the anti-tuberculosis scheme in
this district.
Sanatorium treatment is provided at the County Sanatorium,
Milford, where 24 cases were admitted from Carshalton during the
year. 79 other cases were admitted to other hospitals and institutions
under county arrangements.
Smallpox,
There were no cases of smallpox to admit to the Isolation Hospital,
Clandon, which constitutes the county hospital provision for this
disease and has accommodation for 28 cases.
County and Public Assistance Hospitals.
The new St. Helier Hospital was not completed by the end of the
year, consequently hospital cases admitted under county arrangements
were sent to various hospitals throughout Surrey, mainly to
Redhill and Epsom.
