It will be observed that the incidence of notified tuberculosis
is much higher on the St. Helier Estate due to the fact that a
relatively high proportion of tuberculous families were transferred
to the district under the London County Council's Housing
Scheme.
The Surrey County Council is responsible for the antituberculosis
scheme in the area. The number of patients from
Carshalton who received institutional treatment under the County
scheme during the year was as follows:—
At Surrey County Sanatorium, Milford 24

vear was 39, distributed as to age and sex as follows:—

Only one non-notified tuberculosis death occurred, representing
2.5 per cent. of the total deaths.
The Council provides a free service for the examination of
sputum for tubercle bacilli. In the past year, 69 specimens were
examined with a positive result in 11.
No action was taken under the Public Health (Prevention of
Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925, nor under Section 172 of the
Public Health Act. 1936.
