conditions in the pre-school child. Out of 661 toddlers examined,
147 were found to have dental defects, 97 of which needed immediate
treatment. It is fairly safe to say that the majority of
these cases would not themselves have sought treatment until more
extensive dental damage had occurred, a fact usually first impressed
upon the parent by the child's complaint of pain. Mainly as a
result of the toddler clinics, facilities for dental treatment have been
extended and although 1938 experienced a much busier year than
its predecessor, the activities of these clinics in the coming year are
likely to reach still greater heights. There is still considerable
scope for increased usefulness on the part of the public dental
service. The completion of the new St. Helier clinic building will
make it possible to effect further improvements in our dental
arrangements.
