DEATHS.
The number of registered deaths, as adjusted by transferable
deaths, was 448, of which 244 were among males and 204 among
females. The crude death rate of 7.6 per thousand population
compares with 6.6 in the year before.
The "comparable " death rate, arrived at by the application of
the areal comparability factor to allow for age and sex differences
in the local population and that of the country as a whole, is 8.3
per thousand population. This is the figure for comparison with
the death rate of 11.6 for England and Wales.
Ward Death Rates.
The ward distribution of the total deaths, with the respective
death rates, was as follows:—

CAUSES OF DEATH.
Heart Disease.
Of all the individual groups of diseases, heart affections were
responsible for by far the largest number of deaths. They numbered
97 compared with 87 a year ago and represent 22 per cent.
