A further 8 houses, 4 P.-4 bedroom type and 4 N.P.-4 bedroom
type have since been completed on the Cottage Farm Estate.

The interest of the working-classes in the houses recently
erected is shown by a great increase in the number of applications
received. A good proportion of these have been received from
residents on the London County Council's St. Helier Housing
Estate, who already have adequate accommodation.
Since the end of the year all the outstanding applicants were
requested to complete a fresh form if they still desired to pursue
their applications. As a result of this, the number of applications
on the Council's books at February 14th, 1938, was 215.
Inspection and action taken under Statutory Powers.—
The work performed in relation to housing under the Housing and
Public Health Acts was as follows:—
1. Inspections of Dwelling Houses during the Year.
(1) (a) Total number of dwelling houses inspected for
housing defects (under Public Health or Housing
Acts) 1694
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 4333
(2) (a) Number of dwelling houses (included under
head (1) above), which were inspected and
recorded under the Housing Consolidated
Regulations, 1925 408
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 2482
(3) Number of dwelling houses found to be in a state so
dangerous or injurious to health as to be unfit for
human habitation 6
(4) Number of dwelling houses (exclusive of those
referred to under the preceding sub-head) found
not to be in all respects reasonably fit for
human habitation 447
2. Remedy of Defects during the Year without service
of formal notices.
Number of defective dwelling houses rendered fit in consequence
of informal action by local authority or their
