The Registrar General's statistics differ slightly in some instances
from those compiled from local records. Those total figures relating
to the district as a whole which are supplied by the Registrar
General are set out in this report, but where comparative figures
e.g. as between wards, age groups, etc., are shown, or classification
attempted, these are necessarily taken from local records and may
show slight discrepancies in the aggregate compared with the
Registrar General's totals.
POPULATION
The Registrar General's estimate of the resident population at
June 30th, 1937, is 58,030.
My own estimate, based on local information, is 60,100.
A useful index to population movements within recent years in
the district is provided by an examination of a recent housing
survey made under the Housing Act, 1936, of two complete roads
on the St. Helier Estate, involving 263 houses which were also
included in the original survey under the 1935 Act in December 1935.
The following are the details of the two surveys in respect of these roads:—
