Annual Report of the Medical Officer of Health
for the Year 1925.
(11 Natural and Social Conditions of the District.
Area, Population, etc.—The area of the District is 4,423 acres.
The population at the Census, 1921, was 18,804 persons, of whom
8,848 were, males and 9,966 were females ; it was estimated by the
Registrar-General at 19,460 persons for the year 1925.
A high proportion of the population at the Census was enumerated in
the three Mental Hospitals of the London County Council, the Ewell War
Hospital, the Queen Mary's Convalescent Centre, tlie Guardians' Institution
and other Institutions. The total population of 14 Institutions, including
schools, was 5,801.

The following Table shows, for each Census 1891 to 1921, (i.) the gross population and (ii.) the population exclusive of the special inmates enumerated in the Guardians' Institution, Hospitals and Convalescent Institutions in the District:-
