All samples were satisfactory except for four, three being cases of
incorrect labelling and the fourth of deficiency of a constituent part of
a drug. The labels were re-printed to comply and the drug, a small quantity
which was probably made to an out of date B.P.C. standard, was destroyed.
Complaints from the public relating to food were as follows:-
Mould in a flan case
Mould in an iced cake
Mould in sausage rolls
Foreign body in a milk bottle
Piece of metal in sliced bread
Mould in sliced bread
Warning letters were sent to the firms concerned.
Ice-Cream
Three establishments in the Borough are registered for the manufacture
of ice-cream and 151 for the storage and sale of ice-cream. Forty visits
were paid during the year to the premises manufacturing ice-cream.
Bacteriological Examination of Cups and Glasses
Sixty-three swabs were taken from tea cups at various catering
establishments and fifteen swabs were taken from beer glasses at various
public houses during the year, and were submitted to the Public Health
Laboratory for bacteriological examination. The results are tabulated below:-
