There were vacancies in all classes of work for those willing and
able.
Mitcham is chiefly a working class area. Nearly two-thirds of
the houses have been built since 1921 and more than 50 per cent,
of all roads are tree-lined.
Virtually no building land is available except for the £2} million
Phipps Bridge scheme on which preliminary work has been done.
