Eleven infants failed to survive the first month of life, giving
Mitcham a neo-natal mortality rate of 12.99 per 1,000 related live
births as compared with 15.8 for England and Wales.
Maternal Mortality
During the year no deaths were registered, as in 1958.
Inquests
Inquests were held on 17 residents dying within the district and
on 14 Mitcham residents who died outside the district, a total of 31.
In addition, post-mortems without inquests were held on 83 residents
