National Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1951
Removal to Suitable Premises of Persons in Need of Care and
Attention
There were two cases that fell into this category, both resulting
in Court action and the admission of the person concerned to
hospital. In one case application was made for an extension of the
court order but the application was rejected by the Court.
The person concerned was so ill, however, he could not leave
hospital and eventually went to the annexe for convalesence, which
he appreciated very much. At a later date he went back to his home
where although he is helpless he is kept going by the services of
home helps.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA
WATER SUPPLY
Except for eight houses in Goat Road, supplied by the Sutton
Water Company, the whole of Mitcham is supplied by the
Metropolitan Water Board. A few factories have an additional supply
from deep wells.
There are five licensed caravan yards, each with a stand pipe,
supplying altogether a total of 17 caravans.
The water has been of a consistently high standard of purity
and there is no record of any case of infectious disease being
transmitted by water.
A large number of houses in the Borough have no supply of
drinking water direct from the main, but are supplied from a tank
in the roof. Provided the tank is properly covered and is cleansed
regularly, it provides a satisfactory supply.
RIVERS AND STREAMS
Visits have been paid to all works suspected of discharging
effluent into surface water sewers.
