that for England and Wales, although this has been the case for
some time now, and may have some reference to the fact that
Mitcham is fairly densely populated.
The birth rate dropped to 13.51, which is the lowest yet
recorded in Mitcham and compares with 15.8 for England and
Wales, although the death rate of 9.19 is much better than the
11.6 for the rest of the country.
The infantile mortality of 29.64 is almost identical with that
for England and Wales.
Although so much has been done in building and re-housing,
the housing problems still cause great concern.
With regard to clean food, all food premises in the Borough
have been carefully examined and a special record kept with
points being awarded. They were found on the whole to be
satisfactory, with some minor adjustments necessary.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
A. R. GRAHAM,
Medical Officer of Health.
Public Health Department,
Mitcham Court,
Mitcham.
