The death rate of 9.17 is low compared with 11.7 for England
and Wales.
The infant death rate of 24.48 is good compared with 32 for
England and Wales, which itself is the lowest rate the country
has ever had.
Housing difficulties still cause great concern and are a source
of bitterness to many in the community. The Borough Council
is very well advanced with its housing programme, hut the
restricted building space available will soon be filled up, making
it impossible to rehouse all those who seek fresh accommodation.
I wish to thank the Chairman of the Committees for their
great help and assistance, and all the staff for their loyalty and
support.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
A. R. GRAHAM.
Medical Officer of Health.
Public Health Department,
Mitcham Court,
Mitcham.
