the year, and has a waiting list of cases for admission, although
there is accommodation for 85 children.
Robinson Road Nursery was opened on August 9, 1943, and
at the end of 1947 the register was full with a list of children
waiting for admission. The house has been adapted for nursery
purposes, and with the addition of a prefabricated section,
accommodation has been provided for 50 children.

A voluntary minders' nursery is held at Cavendish Road
Clinic each Friday from 1.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. The mothers of
the children have a voluntary committee of which the Health
Visitor is a member, which arranges the rota of minders. The
scheme has proved very successful, the average number of
children attending being ten per session.
During the year the Committee were concerned at the length
of the waiting lists for admission to the Day Nurseries, and,
following the information that the Sherwood Nursery School
would not be reopened as a Nursery School after war damage
repairs had been completed, the following report was submitted
to the Committee: —
Provision of Additional Nursery Accommodation.
As instructed by the Committee I have investigated the
possibility of providing additional nursery accommodation in the
district. It is essential that any accommodation provided by the
Council should be equal to the minimum standard adopted by
the Ministry of Health during the war for the establishment of
war-time nurseries.
No existing buildings suitable for adaptation into a nursery
are available in the Borough, hence an entirely new building will
be necessary. The need for nursery accommodation would appear
to be greatest in the Pollards Hill area, and several suitable sites
