A Handicraft Centre has also been established and classes
are held once a week at the Mitcham Town Hall.
Small Pox
No case of small pox was notified during the year 1937.
Scarlet Fever
The number of cases notified during the year was 192, this
being 21 more than last year. 178 were removed to hospital.
No deaths were registered from this disease during the year.
Diphtheria
Eighty-nine cases were notified during the year and all the
cases were removed to hospital for treatment. Five deaths from
this disease were registered during the year. All the contacts
are swabbed as a routine measure.
Diphtheria Immunisation
A diphtheria immunisation clinic is held at the Town Hall
every week. During the year 280 children have been immunised.
Diphtheria prophylactic is also given to the medical practitioners
in the district free of charge, and during the year 21 persons were
immunised by doctors obtaining supplies of prophylactic from the
Council.
Typhoid Fever
No cases were notified during the year.
Diarrhcea and Enteritis Under Two Years of Age
Five deaths were registered during the year: two males and
three females.
