VITAL STATISTICS.
During the year 998 live births were registered as belonging to
this district, of which 458 were females and 540 were males, as
compared with 969 last year.
The live birth rate for the year was equal to 15.4 per 1,000 of
population, as against 15.6 per 1,000 last year, the crude birth rate
being 16.0 per 1000.
The birth rate for England and Wales was 14.8 per 1000, as
against 14.7 per 1,000 last year.
Illegitimate Births.
The number of births registered as being illegitimate was 22,
as compared with 21 last year.
The illegitimate rate was equal to 3.0 per cent. of the total
births, as against 2.1 per cent. in 1935.
