Borough of Mitcham
HEALTH REPORT FOR 1935
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the Borough of
Mitcham.
Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in submitting my Annual Report for the year
ended December 31, 1935. The year has been a fairly satisfactory
one from the health point of view.
The birth rate is exactly the same as last year, namely, 15.6
per 1000, whilst the death rate has fallen to 7.7 per 1000. The
infant mortality rate also shows a fall.
The number of infectious disease notifications shows a striking
decrease, especially in the number of cases of scarlet fever.
The housing problem has received very serious consideration
throughout the year. Four clearance orders have been confirmed
by the Ministry of Health, and other areas have been inspected
with a view to making a clearance area.
I wish to place on record my appreciation of the support given
me by all members of the Council, and especially those on the
Public Health and on the Maternity and Child Welfare Committees,
and also to the chief officials.
To the members of my staff I express my thanks for their
loyal assistance and for the efficient manner in which they perform
their duties.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Yours obediently,
A. T. TILL,
Medical Officer of Health.
