Milk and Dairies Regulations
During the year 9 applications for registration as milk distributors were dealt
with. No applications we re received in respect of dairies. Of the 9 new registrations,
4 were for new premises and the other 5 were in respect of the change of proprietorship
of previously registered premises.
The number of premises and distributors registered at 31st December, 1961 was as
follows:-

Meat Inspection
Close supervision of slaughterhouses has been maintained, notwithstanding
difficulties in filling vacancies in the establishment of public health inspectors and
the 100% inspection of animals slaughtered has continued as far as practicable. This
has been achieved by all inspectors taking part in a duty rota, including evening work
and sessions on Saturdays and public holidays.
Condemned meat is either incinerated at the Refuse Disposal Works or disposed of
through the knackers yard which adjoins one the salughterhouses.
Slaughtermen
Fourteen men were licensed as slaughtermen, of whom eight were licensed to
slaughter horses.
