The following are examples of complaints received and the action taken.
(i) Noise from flushing cistern while filling up. Oner
of premises fitted silencer and noise considerably
lessened though not entirely abated.
(ii) Noise from radiogram in private house; children
forbidden to operate it. No further complaints.
(iii) Noise from yard and asphalting plant belonging to
roof tilers; manager agreed to take all practicable
steps to reduce noise; No further complaints.
(iv) Noise from banging of metal - industrial concern;
manager was interviewed and promised to co-operate by
keeping noise to a minimum: No further complaints*
(v) Noise as of whistle in factory; the particular type
of work involving this ceased.
(vi) Noise from juke-box in private premises: Owner has
since removed this from premises
(vii) Noise from compressors at a factory. Manager was
interviewed and he promised to keep noise to a
minimum: No further complaints.
(viii) Noise from brewery of crates being moved, of a steam
boiler, machinery bells, and lorries starting up;
noise usually confined to period 8.30 a.m. to 5.30'
p.m. but these hours were extended owing to Christmas
demands. The manager was interviewed and he agreed
to use only wooden crates during the evening, to
discontinue bells during late evening and night, and
generally do everything possible to minimise noise;
No further complaints.
(ix) Noise of factory boiler's safety valve during night;
noise sometimes unavoidable but engineer promised to
do his best to avoid this during the night; No
further complaints.
Cleansing and Disinfecting
The cleansing and disinfecting station sited at the Refuse Disposal Works has
proved efficient and flexible in meeting requirements made at short notice.
