Priority Dental Service for Mothers and Young Children
The dental officers have devoted 7% of their time to the inspection and treatment of the
priority classes. There has been a slight increase in the number of expectant and nursing mothers
inspected, compared with 1959, with a corresponding increase in the various forms of treatment.
Although in respect of the children under five there has been a small reduction in inspection,
the amount of conservative work carried out was larger. The average number of fillings and silver
nitrate dressings per child treated was three, and extractions 0.95.
A great need exists for dental health education, and a valuable opportunity is afforded
when dealing with these mothers and young children.
