Christmas Parcels
Approximately 1,500 parcels were delivered by voluntary effort to those who were over 80
years of age or housebound.
Meals-on-Wheels
This service has been increased since last year and two further rounds have been started
which means that the Committee now delivers meals on four days each week on a total of 9 rounds.
With the co-operation of the Women's Voluntary Service whodeliver meals one day each week, it
is now possible to supply meals every day (excluding week-ends) to those who are housebound
and in need. 128 applications for this service have been received during theyear and 8,084
meals have been delivered by the Committee, an increase of 555 on last year, and 3,815 by the
Women's Voluntary Service.
This service is dependent on the voluntary workers who deliver these meals each week and
become real friends to those they visit.
Clubs
The four Clubs still continue to flourish and there is now a total membership of approximately
600. Each Club enjoyed Summer Outings and Christmas Parties during the year and the Lord
Morrison Hall now has an excellent Sports Section which won the Inter-Borough Shield presented
by the "T ottenham & Edmonton Weekly Herald".
Each month concerts have been held at the Lord Morrison Hall and trips to the "Intimate"
Theatre have been arranged and these have all been greatly appreciated by the members.
Meals are still served at the St. Ann's and Lord Morrison Hall Clubs twice weekly and five
electrically heated containers were purchased by the Catering Committee to enable the old people
to have meals which are really hot.
A total of 9,235 meals have been served at Clubs during the year.
Holidays and Outings
With the co-operation of the Women's Holiday Fund 52 pensioners were able to enjoy a
holiday by the sea at the minimum cost of £4.4.0d per fortnight including fare.
Two groups spent a very enjoyable time at a Holiday Camp at Dymchurch. The first party
of 66 went in May followed by 109 in September. The cost of the holiday, including return coach
fare from the Town Hall, was £5.10.0d and payments were made each week to the office to cover
the cost of this.
Many outings have been arranged for the housebound due to the generosity of voluntary
organisations and Messrs. Ardleys, and for many it was the first time out for a considerable
number of years.
Optical Service
38 housebound old people were visited by the Optician.
