On two occasions where new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were notified among factory
workers in the district arrangements were made with the ready co-operation of the Chest Physician,
Dr. T.A.C. McQuiston, for factory contacts to attend at the Chest Clinic for miniature X-rays.
In another instance it was possible to get the Mass Radiography Unit to visit a Tottenham factory
to check factory contacts.
The most positive indication of the advances made in the treatment of tuberculosis is given
by the fall in the number of deaths directly caused by this disease. In 1960 there were only 4
deaths in Tottenham compared with 109 in 1940 and 156 in 1920.
