held jointly between hospital and local authority staffs, and in Tottenham too the
consultant psychiatrist to the Prince of Wales's General Hospital has held regular
meetings with the health visitors and mental welfare officers.
In the care of the Aged, progress has been made in providing specially
designed housing accommodation; and financial support and encouragement given
to the valued activities of the Old People's Welfare Committee.
During the year there have been various changes in the Staff, but particular
reference must be made to the retirement of Dr. Esther Rickards who for so many
years gave such outstanding service to the expectant and nursing mothers at our
clinics in Tottenham. A well merited tribute has been paid by the Council to her
excellent work.
In conclusion I wish to acknowledge my deep appreciation of the support
given me by the Chairmen and Members of the Committees concerned with the health
services; and to thank my deputies and heads of the various departments for
their assistance and loyal support throughout the year.
I have the honour to be
Your obedient servant
G. HAMILTON HOGBEN
Medical Officer of Health.
