In cases where it is otherwise the Tottenham Corporation Act is proving
to be a valuable piece of legislation. Urgent defects such as badly leaking
roofs can be dealt with in a comparatively short space of time. Other sections
of the local Act which are proving most useful are those concerned with drainage.
Rag Flock and Other Pilling Materials Act, 1951
At 31st December 1958 there were no establishments licensed for the
manufacture of rag flock.
23 premises were registered for the use of filling materials.
Pet Aninals Act, 1951
At 31st December, 1958. 10 premises were licensed as pet shops in
accordance with the Pet Animals Act, 1951.
Disinfestation and Rodent Control
In an effort to provide reasonable standards of living for the community
we are still confronted with the problem of insect pests, and rat infestation.
Rodents
The basic problem in rat infestation is that of reducing the rat
population in the sewers to a reasonably low level. We must face the
position that the present methods of treatment do no more than touch the
fringe. The introduction of new poisons and techniques of application is under
constant review by technical officers of the Ministry and we are prepared to
use them once they are officially approved.
