CONTROL OF DISEASE
The total number of notifications of infectious disease for the year was 985
as compared with 2,221 the previous year. The decrease was mainly due to the
biennial variation in measles.
Tuberculosis
The number of cases on the tuberculosis register on 31st December, 1958
was 1,799 a decrease of 57 on the previous year.
There were 115 new cases of tuberculosis notified (102 pulmonary and 13
non-pulmonary) compared with 90 in 1957 (86 pulmonary and 4 non-pulmonary).

The thirteen non-pulmonary tuberculosis cases notified related to infections
of bones and joints in four cases, the genito urinary system in four cases, the
lymphatic system in two cases, the meninges in two cases and the skin in one
case.
