Cancer
Deaths from the various forms of cancer are analysed in the
Statistical Summary (page 58). 273 or 18% of the total deaths
were caused by this disease. The very high proportion of males
who died from cancer of the respiratory system would appear to
lend credence to the belief that smoking has some predisposing
influence.
There were 29 deaths from cancer of the breast, which was the
most common site of this disease in females.
