1936, for the acquisition of an area comprising five phases of the redevelopment. The area, over 9 acres in extent, comprised the following:-

It was the obvious choice as the first area for development
as it contains over 90% of the vacant war damaged land in the Declaratory
Area, and it also comprises, with the exception of a public
house,site, all housing development.
The work in the first area is being carried out in five phases
with building commencing with the first phase on the cleared portion.
The rehousing of the people in phase 2 and demolition of their
houses will be carried out as accommodation becomes available in
the first phase of the work, and similar action will be taken in
the 3rd, 4th and 5th period phasing.
The following is a summary of the phasing for Area No. 1,

Building work commenced in February 1951, and it is anticipated
that the different phases of development will then follow one
after the other.
