Diphtheria.
There were 28 notifications of Diphtheria during the year, but
in 24 cases the diagnosis was corrected by the hospital authorities,
so that the final corrected figure for Diphtheria was 4 cases. The
other cases were amended to:—
Tonsillitis 20
Peritonsillar Inflammation 1
Vincent's Angina 1
Glandular Fever 1
Scarlet Fever 1
For the fourth year in succession no death has resulted from
Diphtheria.
The four children were aged 1¾, 3½, 4½ and 9½. There was no
record of any of the children having completed a course of immunisation
treatment.
There is little doubt that the diphtheria immunisation campaign
of recent years has been largely responsible for the spectacular
results in the prevention of this disease. The Area Health Service,
under the County Council, continues the immunisation services
established by the Borough Council, and details of the clinics can
be found in the table facing page 59 of this report.
