THE NEW MUNICIPAL MEDICAL CENTRE AND
DAY NURSERY, PARK LANE.
During 1938, work was commenced on the New Municipal Clinic
and Day Nursery on the Orchard House Site in Park Lane, Tottenham.
This site was previously used by the Education Committee in connection
with open-air education and was, with the approval of the Ministry of
Health, appropriated for Maternity and Child Welfare purposes. The
Clinic is intended to provide facilities for those resident in the NorthEastern
district of the Borough who have hitherto been dependent on the
Municipal Medical Centre in Lordship Lane.
Site.
The net area of the site is approximately one acre. A number of
trees at the front portion of the site are to remain. The areas between
paths are to be turfed and will contain flower beds.
Plan.
The Plan is "U" shaped, with a central forecourt and a back
extension. The aspect is due south. At the north-west angle (at the rear
of the site) is a shelter to accommodate 50 perambulators for the Day
Nursery and in the opposite angle is a garage for four cars. Along the
east of the site is a roadway 12ft. 6ins. wide to be used by vehicles and
cars. The building may be divided into six sections as follows:—
1. Ante-Natal, Infant and Toddlers' Clinics.
2. Day Nursery.
3. Dental Clinic.
4. Minor Ailments Clinic.
5. Light Treatment Clinic.
6. Heating, Laundry, Disinfection and Caretaker's Flat.
