General.
Provision of chemical fire extinguishers to all non-provided schools.
In addition to the general maintenance work connected with the
schools, a considerable number of new blackboards, desks,
tables and cupboards have been made and supplied to the schools
by the Works Department. In connection with the scheme of
reorganisation carried out during 1935, practical work rooms,
complete with equipment, have been provided as follows:—
Risley Avenue School.—Practical work room for Boys' and
Girls' Departments and Domestic Subjects room for Girls'
Department.
Devonshire Hill School.—Domestic Subjects room for Girls'
Department.
Improved staff-room facilities are being carried out generally,
including the provision of some 300 bent-wood chairs, 60
adjustable easy chairs, rugs, and cooking apparatus.
MEDICAL INSPECTION.
Description of arrangements made and methods adopted for the medical
inspection of children:—
Medical Inspection usually takes place in the schools attended by
the children. In those schools where facilities for inspection are lacking,
the children are drafted to one or other of the treatment centres.
The school medical officers are assisted by nurses, who weigh, measure
and sight-test. The doctors conduct the rest of the examination.
The school dentists make independent examinations in school.
The audiometer is being increasingly used for the estimation of
hearing.
Parents are invited to be present at the medical inspections.
Defects discovered are notified to parents, and the children are
followed-up and re-examined in respect of these defects.
