Two Nursery Classes for children from 3-4 years of age, and one
Transitional Class for infants of 4-4½ years, with accommodation for
65 children, are held in bright and airy classrooms at Lancasterian School.
Admission is granted at the request of parents and on the recommendation
of the medical officer in charge of the Infant Welfare Centre in the northern
area of the Borough.
The children undergo routine medical inspection annually, and the
School Nurse pays weekly visits, during which she carries out cleanliness
inspections, treats minor ailments and gives simple instruction in hygiene.
Casual visits to the Nursery Classes are also paid at frequent intervals
by the Senior Assistant Medical Officer and School Nurse. As the Bruce
Castle Treatment Centre is within easy access of Lancasterian School,
any child requiring medical attention is immediately referred to the
School Clinic for treatment.
Each child is provided with individual toilet accessories, including
comb and toothbrush, and a high standard of personal hygiene has been
maintained.
One-third of a pint of pasteurized milk is supplied to every child
daily and the weekly weighings have disclosed a steady gain in weight
in the majority of the little pupils.
