Lordship Lane School for Partially Blind Children.
I am indebted to the Head Teacher for the particulars from which the
following statement is made:—
Number of Tottenham children on roll, March, 1934 13
Number of Tottenham children on roll, January, 1935 13
Number left during 1934 3
Number admitted during 1934 3
Of the present scholars, 6 are boys, 7 are girls. With the exception
of one boy, all scholars have made good progress during the year.
The school work was on exhibition during an "Open-Day" in July,
and a concert was given by the school children in December. At the
latter function tea was served by the senior girls, and handwork was
exhibited and sold.
The boys spend two half-days a week in the woodwork centre and
girls over eleven years of age spend two half-day sessions in the cookery
centre.
As a result of the publication of the Board of Education's Report
on Schools for the Partially Sighted, printed reading books take the
place of large sheets hand-printed by the teacher, much to the improvement
of reading, spelling and general knowledge.
The girls are now permitted to do needlework with thick wool and
large needles. This is a new departure.
Orchard House Open-Air Centre.
